There are many reasons your garage door opener may need troubleshooting. Here are some of the most common problems:

The garage door opener does not work with either the wall switch or the remote control unit – Make sure that the unit is plugged in and that there is not a blown circuit on your circuit breaker. If these conditions are both correct then you need to have a professional out to diagnose the real problem. Electrical problems are not something to mess with.

The garage door makes considerable noise when the remote control switch is pressed – Try lubricating the parts including the springs, rollers and hinges. If this doesn’t work to reduce the noise, your garage door may be warped and causing the noise from rubbing on the channels. Have a professional in to see if you can repair the warped panels or if you need a garage door replacement.

The opener is straining when attempting to lift the door – Close the garage door and remove the garage door opener attachment to the door. Manually raise the door. A properly functioning garage door should raise easily on the springs. If it does not, the springs may be at the end of their life. Do not attempt to replace or repair your springs unless you are a professionally, they are under high tension.
